What materials can be borrowed through Interlibrary Loan?

Answer

Almost any materials required for scholarly research can be requested.  Loans may include articles, books, book chapters, DVDs, etc. Borrowing is contingent upon availability and the policies of the lending institution. Occasionally some items are not available for loan due to copyright restrictions, institutional policy or item condition.

These items are very difficult to borrow:

  • Recently published books
  • Entire Journals (photocopies of individual articles are available)
  • Rare materials, including manuscripts
  • Reference materials
  • Genealogical materials
  • Bulky or fragile materials
  • Doctoral dissertations
  • Materials on Reserve
  • Audio-visual materials
