I'm not in Boston, are there libraries near me that I can use?

I'm an ELA student, is there a library in Los Angeles I can use?

I'm a Speech@Emerson student based in Southern California, where can I get academic resources?

Answer

To find a book in a library near you, use WorldCat.org to search for the book and then input your zip code. It will list public and academic libraries near you that have the book. However, you will have to contact the libraries individually to determine if you have access to them. Feel free to reach out to reference@emerson.edu for assistance with this.

All California residents with an email address have access to California's Bookshelf; an online collection of ebooks and audio books from the California State Library. See this instructional video for details on how to sign up.

ELA students can get a free Los Angeles Public Library eCard which grants digital access to all their collections, including Kanopy and Hoopla. You can also get a physical card to borrow books in person. UCLA and CSU LA also have community access, see below.

Most University of California and California State University campus allow community members with a CA ID to enter their library and use resources while onsite. You many need to register with campus IT to get a day pass to use their computers. Additionally, for a fee ($40-100), you can often get a borrower card to check out books. Alumni and certain other affiliates can get a card for free. Note, that these borrower cards only grant in-person access and do not include remote use of the universities online databases.

Residents of San Diego have access to the Circuit system that includes San Diego County Library, San Diego Public Library, San Diego State University, the University of California at San Diego, and the University of San Diego. Members cannot borrow books from the universities in person, but can request them for pick up at their county or public library.
